ASPHALT PATCHING

When only portions of a parking lot need to  repaired, often prior to seal coating, there are  two  methods of asphalt patching.

Skin Patching, as the name implies, is a thin  layer  of hot asphalt placed on top of the  existing  pavement.  This technique is usually  reserved for areas that have stable base material.  Of course the  asphalt will be raised in comparison to the surrounding  areas, and may inhibit water flow, so these factors  are taken into consideration by our experienced  estimators, allerting the  customer to concerns ahead of time.

Removal and Replacement, or R&R for short, is performed by making a clean saw cut, excavating the old, damaged asphalt, and then compacting the  base.  Sometimes the base material may need to  be excavated as well, especially if moisture is  present.  Once the base material is suitable for  paving, a new layer of hot asphalt is placed on top  by hand or machine, depending on the size of the  area.  Lastly the new asphalt is compacted into  place.
