Although small in their appearance, cracks in an asphalt surface can allow more damage to occur than meets the eye.  The real problems occur when moisture from rain or sprinklers enters the cracks, and then penetrates down to the base material, making it soft.  When vehicles drive over the weakened pavement, the asphalt will crack, causing potholes or alligator surface marks.  To help prevent this, CPC Asphalt performs crack sealing independently or as part of a more comprehensive service with seal coating.  First the cracks are cleaned with a broom and blower, and then the crack sealant, a rubberized material heated to over 300 degrees Fahrenheit, is applied by a pressurized wand.  Hot applied crack sealer is much more effective than the cheaper, cold applied methods. Last Year CPC Asphalt crews applied more than 350,000 gallons of Crafco crack sealant.
